Singapore Myinfo sharing: check the request before sending document copies

Myinfo lets participating Singapore digital services retrieve specified personal data through the Singpass flow. Review the organisation, purpose and requested fields before proceeding; sending a screenshot or document scan is a separate action and does not reproduce Myinfo verification.

If an application offers Myinfo, pause before attaching a folder of identity documents as well. First find out which information the service will retrieve and whether it separately needs supporting files. The two routes can coexist, but they do different jobs.

Singpass describes Myinfo as a way for citizens and residents to manage data use in online transactions. It is not a folder of scanned cards that you export to every service.

Read the request before agreeing

The official explanation of the Myinfo consent page identifies four useful items: application name, entity name, purpose description and the requested data items. Compare them with the task you started.

  1. Check the entity and application name against the service you intended to use.
  2. Read why the information is requested.
  3. Review the fields to be retrieved rather than assuming only your name is involved.
  4. Continue only when you understand the request, then check the resulting form before submitting it.

Complete authentication inside the official Singpass flow. Do not send a recipient your Singpass password, one-time password or app passcode, or save those credentials as a document in Dokus.

Singpass's user FAQ says participating services retrieve the required fields specified for the transaction, with no additional information shared. This describes that retrieval. It does not answer what a separate upload field asks you to send or what the receiving service will do with a document you independently attach.

Treat an upload field as a separate requirement

If the form also asks for a document, read its label and help text. A request for a particular certificate is not an instruction to upload the whole set of documents used to obtain it. Select the requested holder, document and pages, then inspect the file before submission.

Keep the issuer's downloaded file unchanged, including any digital signature, QR code or verification information. A screenshot, scan or image conversion can lose information present in the original file. If the recipient wants a derivative copy, make it separately and retain the source.

For an ICA birth record, the Singapore digital birth extract guide explains the issuer download and verification details. A reference copy of that extract remains different from data pre-filled through Myinfo.

Resolve missing information through the right route

If the registered address is absent or wrong, do not try to fix the underlying record by editing a scan. Singpass's address guidance directs citizens and permanent residents to ICA; other pass holders have routes according to the issuing agency, and Student's Pass holders are directed through their educational institution. Follow the branch for your status.

Ask the receiving service how to continue if its form does not match your situation. Do not assume that adding an unrelated document proves the field is correct or completes an update with the source agency.

Review what you shared

To review participating organisations afterwards, follow Singpass's transaction-history instructions: open Settings in the Singpass app, select Past transactions, then Myinfo transaction history and authenticate. This history concerns Myinfo transactions, not every file sent through email or an independent upload.

  • The named organisation matches the intended transaction.
  • The purpose and requested fields have been read.
  • Any separate document upload is explicitly required.
  • The selected file is for the right holder and contains the requested pages.
  • Issuer signatures and verification information remain intact.
  • The final submitted form has been checked and its acknowledgement saved.

Dokus can keep selected personal copies organised on your iPhone. It does not connect to Myinfo, provide Singpass authentication or make a screenshot equivalent to an issuer credential.

Singapore Myinfo questions

Is sending a profile screenshot the same as using Myinfo?

No. A screenshot is a captured image. Myinfo retrieval happens through a participating digital service's Singpass flow.

Does the transaction history list every document I uploaded?

No. Myinfo transaction history records organisations involved in Myinfo sharing. Keep separate acknowledgements for files uploaded or sent through other channels.

Should I upload extra identity documents just in case?

Follow the receiving service's stated requirements. Check what it retrieves through Myinfo and what it separately requests as a file before selecting an attachment.

My documents used to be all scattered through my gallery, I managed to organize them all. I personally like the watermark feature… I used it a lot while traveling, it makes sharing IDs much safer… it stamps a copy with the name of the company you are sharing with (say, an AirBnb or a car rental). It’s still a bit rough around the edges but it’s a new app and the dev seems to be working on it. Price is alright given it’s a one time payment.. one less subscription!
