Your rating

Open the NRIC or passport document scan, choose JPG or PDF and select 1 MB to stay below the cited ICA guide’s 2 MB ceiling. Inspect the required details after downloading. This is a document attachment, not the separate passport-portrait photo task.

A document attachment below 2 MB

ICA Technical Help specifies JPG, JPEG or PDF files below 2 MB in its document-upload workflow. Choose the available 1 MB target, then inspect the saved document. Read the live service instructions: that guide is not a limit for every Singapore application or for passport portraits.

Shrink a document copy for upload

  1. Choose the NRIC or Singapore passport scan. Add the back if that document’s checklist requires it.
  2. Crop away the background and rotate the copy upright. Cutting the table away can help more than making the writing smaller.
  3. Set Maximum size to the limit the portal allows. The 1 MB option is a useful target below 2 MB; smaller steps are available when the form asks for them.
  4. Choose JPG or PDF as requested, download and check the saved size. Zoom in on the number, address and machine-readable lines before submitting.

If the target cannot be reached, the tool reports the smallest result it achieves. Try a clearer source or a larger allowed target rather than submitting unreadable text. Here 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes.

ICA document uploads and passport portraits are different jobs

ICA’s Technical Help PDF lists JPG, JPEG and PDF document uploads below 2 MB and without password protection. Use that as guidance for the relevant document-upload workflow, then check the live form: it is not a universal limit for every Singapore portal.

A passport or NRIC application portrait is a photograph of your face, not a scan of the document. ICA’s separate Photo Guidelines list an 8 MB ceiling and specific dimensions and appearance requirements. This document tool does not certify portrait compliance or create a passport photo.

Keep required sides and details

Do not omit a required reverse side or passport page to hit a smaller size. If a portal wants one file containing both NRIC sides, first use NRIC front and back to PDF. Only watermark or redact a copy if that recipient accepts alterations.

Choose JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. HEIC depends on browser support; choosing a photo from the iPhone library can provide JPG. Only the first ten pages of an input PDF are used. The output is JPG or an image-based PDF: selectable text, form fields and digital signatures are not preserved. Keep the original when those features matter.

Processing stays in your browser, with no document upload or account. The downloaded copy removes camera metadata and leaves your chosen source unchanged.

Common questions

Can I make an NRIC PDF smaller than 2 MB?

Choose a target below 2 MB, such as 1 MB, then inspect the download. The tool reports when it cannot meet the selected target.

Is 1 MB the official Singapore limit?

No. It is a copy-size preset. ICA’s cited technical guide says below 2 MB for its document uploads; other services and portrait uploads can differ.

Will a signed PDF keep its signature?

No. PDF pages are redrawn as images. Keep and submit the original when its digital signature, text or fields must remain intact.
