Official documents in the United States: identity, tax and court records

Official document tasks in the United States depend on the issuing authority. State DMVs, federal tax services and traffic courts handle different records. Confirm both the jurisdiction and the document type before assembling evidence.

If an ID is missing, use the U.S. document replacement guide. For a California DMV application, prepare REAL ID identity and printed residency evidence. California requirements are not a substitute for another state’s checklist.

For financial records, select and obtain the correct IRS tax transcript. If you received a citation, check the traffic ticket procedure and evidence requirements for the court or agency handling it.
