Bahamian birth certificate: request a certified copy

MyGateway offers certified Bahamian birth-certificate copies for eligible adults applying for themselves. A request for another person needs the Registrar General’s applicable identity and relationship checks; confirm that route rather than using a self-request on their behalf.

Prepare the official request

  1. Check whether you need a certified copy and which person’s birth entry it concerns.
  2. For an eligible self-request, open the Registrar General’s Birth Certificate service on MyGateway.
  3. Enter the record details carefully and follow the live identity checks.
  4. If requesting for a relative, consult the Registrar General about relationship evidence and government-issued ID.
  5. Save the receipt and follow the instructions for obtaining the certified copy.

Keep the right evidence

The service page’s online self-request and the FAQ’s family-request guidance describe different situations. Do not assume that the self-service eligibility permits every third-party request. Ask the Registry to resolve any uncertainty before paying.

Keep the certified certificate separate from a photograph made for your own reference. A scan does not add certification to an ordinary copy. If an application requires the certified paper document, preserve it and follow that instruction.

If a recipient accepts a personal working copy, you can prepare an accepted reference scan as a PDF. The result is an image-based PDF. It does not preserve selectable text, interactive fields or an original digital signature. Keep this output separate from any original, certified copy or unchanged official file required for submission.

Questions

Does an image become certified when converted to PDF?

No. Certification comes from the issuing authority or the required authorised process, not from changing the file format.

Can I request for a relative through the same route?

The FAQ describes family and relationship checks. Confirm the correct procedure with the Registrar General before using a self-request service.

What should I keep after requesting?

Keep the reference, payment receipt, collection instructions and the certified document when issued.

My documents used to be all scattered through my gallery, I managed to organize them all. I personally like the watermark feature… I used it a lot while traveling, it makes sharing IDs much safer… it stamps a copy with the name of the company you are sharing with (say, an AirBnb or a car rental). It’s still a bit rough around the edges but it’s a new app and the dev seems to be working on it. Price is alright given it’s a one time payment.. one less subscription!
