Ask CSD or WORC whether it accepts a marked identity reference copy. Add the department, the personal-information request reference and date to the passport or licence image.

Give the identity copy a specific purpose

CSD and WORC name identity evidence in their records-request guidance. Before adding a mark, ask the receiving office whether an altered reference copy is accepted for your request.

How to watermark a CSD or WORC identity-reference copy

  1. Confirm the department and the identity evidence required for your request.
  2. Open the accepted passport or licence scan. Enter “Copy for [CSD or WORC], personal-information request [reference], [date]”.
  3. Adjust Intensity so the purpose is visible across the image while required fields remain clear.
  4. Save the agreed format, reopen it and check the final copy before sending.

Use the actual department and reference

A named purpose helps explain why the recipient has the attachment. Replace the bracketed example with your own office, reference and date; do not include sensitive details of the records themselves in the mark.

The Ombudsman’s minimisation guidance supports asking what information is needed. It does not say every public office must accept a watermark. A label also does not conceal a number, prevent copying or verify your identity.

For an office that needs an unaltered image, follow that process. Keep a purpose-labelled reference copy separate from any complete official evidence.

Check the saved copy

Choose JPG, PNG, supported HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. Only the first ten pages of an input PDF are processed. Download JPG or an image-based PDF; selectable text, fillable fields and digital signatures are not preserved. Keep any original signed or fillable file.

The document is processed in your browser without an account or document upload. The downloaded copy removes camera metadata and leaves the source unchanged.

Use Photo to PDF for the layout, Compress for an attachment ceiling, Watermark for an agreed purpose label or Hide details for agreed unnecessary fields. Save between tools and inspect the final downloaded file.

Common questions

Must I watermark a Cayman records-request ID copy?

No universal requirement is established here. Confirm that the receiving office accepts the purpose label before using it.

Does the watermark hide my passport number?

No. Required details remain visible. Cover a field separately only when the recipient agrees it is unnecessary.

Is the source document uploaded to add the mark?

No. Processing stays in your browser without a document upload or account. The source is unchanged and camera metadata is removed from the downloaded copy.

Does the mark lock or certify the records-request PDF?

No. It identifies the department and intended request on an accepted reference image. It does not encrypt the PDF, certify the ID or replace CSD’s or WORC’s identity checks.
