When an organisation needs an identity copy for your access request, name it, the request purpose and the date in the watermark. Keep required identification details readable. This optional label separates that copy’s intended use from other transactions; it does not verify identity.
Label a copy requested for access to personal information
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada's business guidance explains that an organisation may need more information to verify an access requester's identity. Ask what it needs before preparing an ID copy.
A purpose label is an optional sharing choice. It is not an OPC requirement and does not authenticate you. If the organisation needs an unchanged image, follow its identification process.
How to watermark an access-request identity copy
- Open the requested passport or driver's licence copy. Add the reverse side only when it is needed.
- Check the detected crop and rotate the image upright.
- Enter the organisation and purpose, such as the fictional "Maple Records Ltd., personal-information access request". The tool adds today's date in the fine print.
- Choose an intensity that leaves required identity details readable.
- Download as JPG or PDF and inspect every page before sending it through the organisation's designated request channel.
The watermark repeats across the document so its intended use stays visible. It cannot prevent identity misuse. Verify the recipient and provide only the information needed for this request.
Prepare the right attachment
If the organisation requests both licence sides in one PDF, combine them on a Letter page. Only hide unnecessary details after agreeing which fields are required. To meet a stated attachment ceiling, compress the finished copy and check its small print again.
The tool handles one document and its reverse. It does not merge independent documents into an access-request evidence pack or submit the request on your behalf.
Done on your device
Open JPG, PNG, supported HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. Only the first ten pages of an input PDF are processed. The export contains page images and loses selectable text, interactive fields and digital signatures, so preserve the original when those features matter.
The copy is processed in your browser without a document upload or account. Camera metadata is removed and the source file stays unchanged.
Watermark questions
What should I write for a personal-information access request?
Name the organisation and the access-request purpose. The tool adds today's date in its fine print. Use a purpose label only when it suits the organisation's identity-check process.
Is an ID copy required for every access request?
No universal requirement is established here. Ask what the organisation needs to verify your identity before sending a copy.
Can I mark both sides of my licence for free?
Yes. Add the reverse side and check both sides of the saved copy.
Does the watermark stop identity fraud?
No. It shows the intended recipient and purpose but cannot prevent misuse. Verify the request and share only the evidence needed.
Does the access-request watermark lock the PDF?
No. It adds visible recipient-and-purpose text to an accepted reference copy. It does not encrypt the PDF, certify the identity document or prevent the recipient from copying it.
